The Lunar New Year is a time for coming together with friends and community, and it is celebrated by many across the UK. Here in Bath, there are lots of ways to join the celebrations and welcome the Year of the Horse.
Lunar New Year is a general term referring to celebrations that mark a new year according to a lunar or lunisolar calendar. It is often referred to as the Spring Festival, marking the start of the spring season, symbolising renewal and new opportunities.
ResLife sends warm wishes of luck and happiness to everyone celebrating Chunjie (Chinese New Year), Seollal (Korean New Year) and Tết (Vietnamese New Year).
Prepare for the New Year
Get your accommodation feeling ready for welcoming the New Year by joining one of our craft sessions. In Green Park House, we will be making some traditional paper cuttings, and you can join us in Clevelands Building to make some Chinese knots.
These decorations symbolise good luck and can help make your accommodation feel vibrant and welcoming for the New Year.
Come together to celebrate
We have a range of activities planned to bring people together for the Lunar New Year. Our games night will feature classic games from across East and Southeast Asia, including Mahjong, Yutnori, and Tiến lên.
You can also join our RLAs at the Holburne Museum for their collaboration with the Museum of East Asian Art. You’ll experience a Lion Dance, craft activities and have the opportunity to explore the Holburne’s permanent collection and current exhibitions.
Take part in our Chinese New Year couplet writing event in Clevelands Building, where you can make your own hanging decorations to bring good fortune for the year.
In Green Park House, we’ll be hosting a community celebration with games, crafts, sparklers, and dessert dumplings, bringing together the shared and unique traditions of different cultures celebrating the New Year.
From 13 to 20 February, lime tree will be serving a special menu developed in collaboration with two Chinese student societies.
