Make traditional decorations ahead of the celebrations
Join us for a crafty celebration
Celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year with creativity and community at our Chinese New Year Paper-Cutting workshop. As part of the festive season, this gathering offers a chance to learn and make traditional paper cuttings; made of intricate designs that are an important part of Chinese New Year decorations and cultural expression. Whether you’ve tried paper cutting before or are just curious to have a go, this event gives you space to slow down, make something beautiful, and enjoy time with others.
At the workshop, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the art of Chinese paper cutting, a folk craft with a long history tied to celebration and good luck which are often placed on doors and windows.
Materials will be provided, and ResLife Ambassadors will be on hand to show you the basic techniques. You can follow along step by step or let your imagination guide you as you try your own style.
This event is about more than just making crafts. It’s an opportunity to connect with others, enjoy a calm creative activity, and learn something from another culture’s celebration.
Come along for a relaxed evening of creativity, culture, and community as we celebrate Chinese New Year together with paper, scissors, and good company.
Green Park Living Lounge is located on the ground floor of the building, just right of the main entrance and across from the reception. The lounge is accessible with an automatic door and a sloped entrance for wheelchair users. There are a range of seats in the lounge including table seats, sofas, and high seats. There is lots of natural light from the multiple windows along the length of the lounge.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
You can expect a calm, creative space where you can celebrate Chinese New Year through a traditional hands-on activity. The session will be set up to feel relaxed and welcoming, with tables for crafting and plenty of time to work at your own pace.
All materials will be provided, and support will be available throughout, whether you’d like step-by-step guidance or prefer to experiment with your own ideas.
You’re welcome to come with friends or on your own, and there’s no pressure to be experienced or particularly artistic. You can chat while you craft, work quietly, or simply enjoy learning something new in a low-pressure environment.
By the end of the session, you’ll have your own paper cuttings to take home and display, along with a chance to relax, be creative, and celebrate the New Year in a thoughtful and meaningful way.
