Time flies when you're having fun! It probably feels like just yesterday when you moved in, excited to start this new chapter of your life at university, and now it's nearly summer and time to start the move out process ðŸ˜
We are here to help make the process as easy and pain-free as possible to avoid any stress and anxiety. As long as you follow this guide and allow yourself enough time to get packed rather than wait until the day before your departure date, you will be out of here in no time.
Your departure date
- If you are on a 38 week contract, your departure date is the 14 June 2025.
- If you are on a 40 week contract, your departure date is the 28 June 2025.
If you live on campus, be aware that the University Open Days are on Friday 13 June and Saturday 14 June. The campus will be especially busy on these days, especially parking, so if you prefer to depart before the Open Day, get in touch and we'll help you.
Packing and cleaning tips
When you're in the midst of packing up, keep some of these helpful tips in mind:
- Don't forget to empty the fridge/freezer early on, and make a fun day of it with your housemates using up all the food! Freezer tapas, perhaps?
- Any non-perishables you're not able to use up before departure, just drop them off at the Community Larder for others to use.
- If you have other things you no longer want, such as clothes or stationary, don't bin it! You can donate good quality clothing items at a number of places, such as the Bath Cats & Dogs Home (only a 10 minute walk away from the Parade), or the British Heart Foundation (only a 7 minute walk away from Green Park House). See the Leave No Trace donation point map for more locations.
Communal areas
- When it comes to shared items that you and your housemates may have gotten together for communal areas, be sure to communicate with each other on how to fairly separate, sell, or donate the shared items.
- More importantly, discuss who is responsible for making sure the communal areas are left clean with no items left behind. Have these conversations as early as possible so it's not all just left to the last person!
- Be sure to correctly recycle and remove all rubbish before you move out. You don't want to be left with any cleaning charges!
Student Departure Agreement
Finally, make sure you complete the Student Departure Agreement before you move out. You will be asked to check your bedroom and communal areas and report any maintenance issues or concerns you have within your accommodation. The earlier the better.
Hope you enjoyed your first year of university in our accommodation. Happy summer!
