A guide to some great restaurants in the city

Here's some student-friendly options for food in Bath that will give you a taste of home without breaking the bank!

Bath may be a small city, but it's jam-packed with enough restaurants, bars, and cafes to keep you busy during your time here. Want to know which are the bucket list spots? I went on a foodie tour of Bath, and have tried and tested student recommendations (vegetarian and meat eater approved). So, if you want something familiar and comforting, or you're looking for your next favourite spot, look no further!

Please note, this page contains references, links and prices to external outlets. This is provided to assist you in finding information that may be helpful, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy and relevance of this information if you choose to visit the outlets listed.

Chilli Family Noodles

Chilli Family Noodles is a noodle bar and café serving Chinese and Japanese cuisine. This is a student favourite and includes authentic Szechuan sweet potato noodles (Suan la fen), and noodle and rice bowls. It's guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser, as they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, so everyone's happy!

Speaking from experience, it's a good idea to remember to bring enough cash as Chilli Family don't accept card payment. It's about £9-£10 for vegetarian and vegan dishes, and £12-£14 for meat dishes, so a fairly budget-friendly restaurant option. We got the veggie hot and sour wheat noodle soup, and the crispy duck fried udon dishes.

Chai Walla

Chai Walla is an Indian street food take-away spot near Green Park Station. The menu is small (samosas and various wraps are their main offering), but it packs a punch, with all menu items under £10, and vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal-friendly options! They also run a loyalty card scheme, making it easy to keep coming back...

The Student Box!

Red Hat Taco is a Mexican street food stall based in Green Park Sainsbury's (keep an eye out for it next time you are doing your Sainsbury's shop). This is a new addition to the city's range of street-food offerings. Like the name suggests, they serve tacos with fresh corn tortillas and both meat and vegetarian options. They offer a student box, so make sure to bring your university ID. I got the black bean and mixed vegetable tacos with the chard red pepper salsa - yum!

Indian Temptation

Indian Temptation is a vegetarian restaurant boasting an extensive Northern and Southern Indian menu. It also has plenty of vegan and gluten-free options! It has pretty student-friendly prices, with a main dish costing £9-£12 and a starter costing approximately £6.

If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend trying the Chilli Paneer.

Want to have a go at making the food yourself instead?

Whilst we've included several more budget-friendly options, eating out all the time in Bath can get pretty expensive! Check out our collection of blogs, including guides to the supermarkets in Bath, and recipe ideas.

The University also offers a range of cultural food options in campus outlets, including the Oishii Counter (Japanese food) and the Chido Counter (Mexican food) in the Fountain Canteen.

All tried and tested by our intern, Emily. If we've missed out your favourite restaurant, or you have your own recommendations, please let us know at reslifefeedback@bath.ac.uk
