If you’ve found yourself living in Bath city centre for the first time, then you’re in for a treat. Bath is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, and living in the heart of it means you’re right at the centre of all the action. Though you lose the convenience of being on campus (no waking up 5 minutes before your lecture and making it in, unfortunately), you gain the convenience of being close to everything else.
Everything is within walking distance
One of the biggest perks of living in Bath city centre is how walkable everything is. Forget spending money on buses or taxis – in Bath, you can get just about anywhere on foot. Whether you need to pop out for groceries, grab a coffee, or head to a lecture, you’re never too far away. Plus, walking around is a treat in itself as Bath is one of the most photogenic cities in the UK.
Cafés, restaurants, and takeaways galore
Living in the city centre means you’re also spoilt for choice when it comes to food. Bath is packed with cosy cafés, quirky independent coffee shops, and fantastic restaurants offering cuisines from all around the world. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty English breakfast, delicious Italian pasta, or a mouth-watering curry, there’s something for every taste and budget. And let’s not forget the abundance of takeaways – perfect for those late-night cravings or lazy days when you don’t fancy cooking.
Buzzing nightlife and social scene
If you’re up for some fun after a day of studying, Bath’s nightlife won’t disappoint. Living in the city centre means you’re just a short walk away from an array of pubs, bars, and clubs. From lively student bars to cosy traditional pubs with live music, there’s always something going on. And if you’re looking to go "out out", the city’s clubs offer everything from cheesy pop nights to indie anthems and house music. You’ll never have to worry about missing out on the social scene.
Cultural hotspots right on your doorstep
Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage city, which means there’s a rich history and plenty of cultural treasures to explore. Living in the city centre puts you right next to iconic sites like the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and the Jane Austen Centre. You can take in a play or a concert at the Theatre Royal, browse the latest exhibitions at The Holburne Museum, or catch a film at one of the independent cinemas. With so much culture on your doorstep, there’s always something interesting to see and do.
Green spaces to relax and unwind
Even though you’re in the city centre, Bath offers plenty of beautiful green spaces where you can relax and unwind. Head to Parade Gardens for a peaceful stroll, enjoy a picnic in Royal Victoria Park, or take in the stunning views of the city from Alexandra Park. There are also plenty of scenic walks along the River Avon or up to the Bath Skyline if you’re in the mood for a bit of nature. It’s the perfect balance between city life and a breath of fresh air.
Easy access to shopping
Need some last-minute supplies, new clothes, or just fancy a bit of retail therapy? Living in the city centre means you’re surrounded by a mix of high street shops, quirky boutiques, and vintage stores. From the SouthGate shopping centre to the independent stores dotted around Milsom Street, Bath has something for every style and budget. Plus, you’ll find all your essentials at supermarkets, pharmacies, and convenience stores just a short walk away.
Great transport links
Living in the city centre means you’re well-connected to the rest of Bath and beyond. Bath Spa train station is right on your doorstep, making it easy to hop on a train for a day trip to Bristol, Cardiff, or even London. The bus station is also nearby, offering regular services to the University of Bath campus and other parts of the city. Plus, with everything so close, you might not even need public transport most of the time!
