Create, celebrate, decorate

Learn, create, and celebrate together

Looking to try something creative, colourful, and a little bit different? Join us for a marigold garland-making session in celebration of Vaisakhi; a relaxed, hands-on event where you can craft your own decorations while learning a bit more about this vibrant festival.

Vaisakhi is an important celebration in the Sikh calendar, marking the founding of the Khalsa in 1699 and, more widely, the spring harvest in parts of India. It’s a time of community, joy, and new beginnings, often celebrated with music, food, and bright decorations – including beautiful marigold garlands that symbolise positivity and celebration.

At this session, you’ll be using artificial marigold flowers to design and assemble your own garland to take home. Whether you want to add a pop of colour to your room, brighten up your desk, or create something to gift to a friend, it’s a simple and satisfying way to get creative. No experience needed, just bring yourself and a willingness to give it a go!

The atmosphere will be easy-going and welcoming, whether you’re already familiar with Vaisakhi or completely new to it, everyone is welcome to come together to celebrate culture and community in our halls.

So if you fancy a bit of crafting, a splash of colour, and a relaxed way to connect with culture and creativity, come along and make something you’ll actually want to hang onto.

Green Park Living Lounge is located on the ground floor of the building, just right of the main entrance and across from the reception. The lounge is accessible with an automatic door and a sloped entrance for wheelchair users. There are a range of seats in the lounge including table seats, sofas, and high seats. There is lots of natural light from the multiple windows along the length of the lounge.

ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.

This event is designed to be relaxed, creative, and easy to take part in. You can arrive when it suits you, settle in, and start making at your own pace. There’s no set outcome you need to achieve – you’re free to design your garland however you like, whether that’s something neat and traditional or a bit more colourful and unique.

The atmosphere will be calm and welcoming, with space to focus on the activity or chat with others if you feel like it. You can work quietly, take breaks, or simply enjoy the process of creating with your hands. All materials will be provided, along with light guidance from RLAs if you’d like help getting started.

You’re welcome to come along whether you’re familiar with Vaisakhi or just curious to learn more, and there’s no pressure to know anything in advance. By the end, you’ll have your own marigold garland to take away – something bright, personal, and perfect for adding a bit of colour to your space.
