Happy Energy Saving Week!

A chance to win and make a difference.

We all like a bit of friendly competition, especially when it involves free food, right? ðŸ‘€

Well, as part of the University's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and reduce energy consumption, we're running a competition across University accommodations from the 17 February to 02 March. The winning block from each area will earn a free meal on campus!

Whether you're based in the East Campus, West Campus, or City, it's time to get saving and lead your accommodation to victory!

To help you get started, here are some key tips for saving energy in your accommodation:

  • Switch off lights and appliances: the easiest way to save energy is to turn off lights and appliances when they're not in use. Get in the habit and it'll make a huge difference.
  • Put a lid on it: when cooking, always use a lid on your saucepan. Not only will it speed up cooking, but it will actually save so much energy in the long run.
  • Don't overfill the kettle: only boil the water you need. For a single cup of tea, 300 ml is more than enough, and it will boil way faster.
  • Cook smarter, not harder: if possible, cook with your flatmates or share the oven. Having group meals together not only saves energy but gives you time to spend with your flatmates.

The Waste & Sustainability Team will be launching the competition at the Refresh Fair on the 07 February. Be sure to come along and find out more about how you can get involved.

Energy-saving is more than just a competition- it's a way to make a real impact on your carbon footprint and the environment. It's also a good way to practice for when you move into private accommodation and will need to start paying utility bills.

Ready. Set. GO!
