Blake's bakes and makes for spring
Easter is the perfect time to dive into arts and crafts, with the themes of springtime renewal offering inspiration for creative projects. Also, the abundance of chocolate in supermarkets usually reminds me how much I love baking (well... eating the things I bake!). This articles outlines some project suggestions and places to get craft and baking supplies.
Shopping for craft and baking supplies in Bath
There are lots of places in Bath where you can pick up what you need for creative projects. Here are some of my go-to places:
- Bath Guildhall Market is a great place to look for sewing and needlecraft materials and haberdashery.
- Wool is an independent wool and yarn shop in the centre of Bath.
- Hobbycraft in the Mero retail park has a huge range of craft supplies, and also ingredients, moulds and equipment for baking.
- ProCook is also good for baking equipment.
Easter and spring crafts
- Spring wreaths: I love a good wreath. This is a great project if you want something to display for the season. You can use or make a wire or twine frame, and decorate with seasonal items - you can find some inspiration from these wreath project ideas.
- Low-cost decorations for spring: There are lots of different things you can make with some basic craft supplies and glue. These origami hanging birds and pipe cleaner and felt flowers are fun.
- Sewn Easter decorations: You can make cute low-cost decorations with some felt and thread - here is a decoration project to try with three different difficultly levels.
- Easter bonnets: Wearing a new or fancy hat can be traditional on Easter, so bedazzling one could be a fun Easter-y craft! Wide brimmed, straw hats probs work best for this. You can find specific supplies and kits for Easter bonnet making, and here are some fun bonnet design ideas.
- Easter crochet projects: This collection of Easter crochet patterns has some cool ideas, varying from easy to way beyond my skill level/attention span! I also really like this cute garland pattern.
- Easter greeting cards: If you fancy making some cards to gift over Easter, here is an elegant origami card design.
Easter bakes
- Easter egg nests: For me, chocolate Easter egg nests are a classic spring bake and an excellent excuse to eat lots of mini eggs. You can also make meringue nests for something a bit lighter.
- Decorated biscuits: Try this iced biscuit recipe with some festive cookie cutters.
- Easter egg cake pops: These Easter egg cake pops look really stylish and delicious, plus don't require any moulds.
