Securing accommodation is an essential step towards the start of your journey with us. Once you’ve been allocated a place, it’s important to understand the process of accepting your accommodation allocation. Here's what you need to know:
Receiving your accommodation allocation
After you apply for accommodation, we will send you an allocation via email. This email will contain all the essential details about your allocated accommodation, including the type of room, location, and rental costs. It’s important to carefully read through all the information provided in the allocation to ensure it meets your needs and expectations.
Timeframe for accepting the allocation
Once you receive your accommodation allocation, you have a specific timeframe within which you must accept it. You need to respond within 4 days of the allocation date. If you do not accept the allocation within this period, it will be withdrawn, and your accommodation place could be allocated to another student so make sure to frequently check your emails, including junk folders.
How to accept the allocation
To accept your accommodation allocation, follow the instructions provided in the email. Typically, you’ll need to log in to the University of Bath’s accommodation portal, where you can formally accept the allocation. This process may also involve agreeing to the terms and conditions of your accommodation contract.
Financial commitment
When you accept your accommodation allocation, you’re also agreeing to the financial commitment that comes with it. This includes paying the specified rent for the duration of your contract. We will provide details on payment schedules and methods. It’s crucial to be aware of these financial obligations and plan your budget accordingly.
Cooling-off period
The University of Bath provides a 14-day cooling-off period after you’ve accepted your accommodation allocation. During this time, you have the right to cancel your accommodation contract without penalty. This period gives you some flexibility if your circumstances change or if you have second thoughts about your accommodation.
What happens if you decline the allocation?
If you decide to decline the accommodation allocation, you should do so within the 4-day response period. However, declining an allocation may limit your options for university-provided accommodation, as spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we advise having a plan B in place already if you choose to decline. This applies even if you were guaranteed university-provided accommodation.
Even if you have not got one of your top preferences, we encourage you to accept your allocation. If the room does not meet your needs, there will be an opportunity to apply for a transfer in October.
The importance of reading the terms and conditions
Before accepting your accommodation, it’s essential to thoroughly read the terms and conditions outlined by the university. These terms cover important aspects such as your responsibilities as a tenant, payment schedules, and rules regarding the use of the accommodation. Understanding these terms will help you avoid any surprises later on and ensure you’re fully aware of your commitments.
Once you’ve accepted your accommodation allocation, you’ll receive information on your move-in date, what to bring, and details about settling into your new home.
For more detailed information, be sure to check our accommodation terms and conditions directly. This will provide you with the most up-to-date and comprehensive guidance on what to expect and how to manage your accommodation allocation.
