Celebrating International Women's Day
Create it. Share it. Celebrate it.
Celebrate strength, solidarity and creativity at our International Women’s Day Friendship Bracelet Making Event.
Join us for a relaxed and uplifting crafting session where you can create friendship bracelets in the official International Women’s Day colours. Using vibrant threads, beads, and simple weaving techniques, you can make as many bracelets as you like — whether you’re crafting with friends, meeting new people, or enjoying some focused creative time.
This year’s theme, Give and Gain, is all about the power of sharing support, opportunity and encouragement. The bracelets you create won’t just be beautiful accessories, they’ll become small symbols of connection and community. Our RLAs will be handing them out to students on Monday 11th March, spreading the message of empowerment and celebrating the achievements and contributions of women everywhere.
Whether you identify as a woman or want to show your support as an ally, this event is a chance to reflect, connect and take part in something meaningful. Come along, get creative, and help us share a little colour and solidarity across campus.
Green Park Living Lounge is located on the ground floor of the building, just right of the main entrance and across from the reception. The lounge is accessible with an automatic door and a sloped entrance for wheelchair users. There are a range of seats in the lounge including table seats, sofas, and high seats. There is lots of natural light from the multiple windows along the length of the lounge.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on
This event will be calm and flexible, with no expectation to socialise or speak in groups unless you want to. You’re welcome to come with friends, work independently, or move at your own pace.
The room will have a clear, simple layout with bracelet-making materials organised and labelled. Visual examples of bracelet patterns will be available, alongside written step-by-step instructions. RLAs will be on hand to help or demonstrate, but you can choose to follow along, read the guide quietly, or create your own design. There’s no right or wrong way to take part.
Lighting will be standard indoor lighting, and we’ll aim to keep background noise to a minimum. You’re welcome to wear headphones, take breaks, or step outside and return as needed.
There is no competition and no minimum number of bracelets to make. Whether you create one or many, your contribution supports the International Women’s Day theme of Give and Gain; sharing small acts of connection in a way that works for you.
