Climb Through History: Bath Abbey Tower Tour

What secrets are hidden inside one of Bath’s most iconic buildings? Ready to find out?

Discover one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks from the inside out – and way, way up! Join us for a guided tour of the Bath Abbey Tower, where you’ll climb the historic stone steps, step behind the scenes of the bell chamber and clock room, and take in some of the most stunning panoramic views the city has to offer.

Along the way, you’ll learn fascinating stories about the Abbey’s history and even get a peek at how the bells are rung.

Whether you’re into architecture, city views, or just looking for a unique way to experience Bath, this is a must-do adventure.

ResLife Team member Tabitha will be ready to meet you in the John Wood Social Space by the reception desk from 3.30pm. You’ll be able to recognise her wearing a light blue t-shirt or hoodie with the ResLife logo.

If you prefer to arrive earlier, there is plenty of seating available in the social space. The group will leave John Wood at 3.45pm, so please be sure you are ready to leave and have joined the group by this time.

As a group, Tabitha will lead you to walk over to Bath Abbey together, ready to meet your tour guide for the event.

The event will conclude outside of the Abbey, and from there you can choose to stay in the city centre or return to your accommodation.

A Bath Abbey guide will lead the group on a fully guided tour of the tower, which involves climbing around 200 steps in stages. Along the way, we’ll stop at several points including the ringing chamber, bell chamber, and the clock room (where you can see inside the famous clock face).

At the top, you’ll step out onto the roof for breath taking 360° views of Bath – a great photo opportunity and a moment to take it all in.

Be aware that the spiral staircase is narrow in places, but there are rest stops along the way, and the guide will pace the tour to suit everyone in the group. There are no scheduled breaks, but if it any point you feel you need to rest, please let the guide or the ResLife team lead know, and they will help to organise this for you.

The environment is welcoming, and the guides are experienced at making the tour enjoyable for all visitors.

You’ll have the chance to ask questions and learn fun facts throughout, or just quietly enjoy the experience.

The tour lasts around 45–50 minutes, and we’ll return to the group meeting point afterward. Please make sure to Wear trainers or shoes you'll be comfortable doing lots of walking in.

Please note unfortunately this event is not accessible for wheelchair users. For further details on accessibility in the Abbey, you can visit their dedicated webpage here
