Take a break and head for the hills
Put on your layers and embrace the autumn chill with an evening walk to Sham Castle. Join our ResLife Ambassadors for a relaxed stroll from campus to one of Bath's most curious landmarks.
Built in the 1760s, Sham Castle looks like a grand fortress from a distance, but get up close and you'll discover it's really just a decorative wall. It's one of Bath's quirkiest sights, and the hillside around it offers great views out across the city as the lights come on below.
Whether you're new to Bath or have lived here for a while, it's a great way to clear your head, get some fresh air and take a break from screens and study. You'll also get to meet other residents along the way and see the city from a different angle.
No hiking experience needed, just a good pair of shoes and a warm coat.
Step out and take in the sights.
Polden Common Room is on the ground floor of Polden B Block, next to the Polden Cafe and just along from the West Accommodation Centre. The room is fully accessible with step-free access and a range of booth and table seating. There are accessible toilets on the same floor.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you. You'll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
You can find out more about Polden Common Room here.
Meet our RLAs at Polden Common Room at 7:00pm. If you're coming on your own, they'll happily introduce you to others before you set off.
RLAs will lead the walk to Sham Castle and back. The walk will take around 90 minutes in total, and you'll be back at Polden Common Room by 9:00pm.
The route is not step-free and includes slopes and some uneven ground. It will be dark, so wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and warm layers.
You can walk at your own pace, and the group will stop to take in the views. If at any point you need a break or some extra support, let one of our RLAs know and they'll be happy to help.
This event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if the weather is bad.
