Whether you're looking for a place to relax between lectures, meet other students, attend events, or simply enjoy some company, Polden Common Room is here for you.

Located on campus and exclusively available to City and Campus residents living in university accommodation, Polden Common Room is a welcoming and inclusive space designed to help you feel connected, supported and at home throughout your university journey.

A Space for You 

Polden Common Room is open throughout term time*:

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm: for city resident students looking for a comfortable and calm place to spend time between lectures.

Every evening during term time, 7:00pm to midnight: providing a safe and friendly environment to relax, socialise or unwind after a busy day.

Whether you need somewhere to study quietly, catch up with friends, read a book, listen to music, or simply enjoy being around other people, Polden Common Room is the perfect place to be.

*from 20 September 2026 to 1 June 2027 excluding winter & spring break

Regular Events Throughout Term Time 

Polden Common Room is also the home of a variety of regular ResLife events, running throughout term time on:

• Mondays
• Wednesdays
• Fridays

All events begin at 7:00pm and offer a great opportunity to meet other residents, try something new and make the most of your time at university.

Meet the ResLife Ambassadors

One of the best things about Polden Common Room is the chance to connect with our friendly ResLife Ambassadors (RLAs).

Our ambassadors are there to chat, listen and offer support whenever you need it. Whether you've had a difficult day, are missing home, feeling lonely in your flat, or simply want someone to talk to, you're always welcome to drop in and say hello.

If you can't make it to the Common Room, you can also call or text the ResLife mobile, 7 days a week between 7pm and midnight, and one of our friendly RLAs will be there to support you.

More than just a common room

Polden Common Room is a community space where all our residents are welcome.

If your flatmates are heading out and you'd rather have a quieter evening, why not bring a book, put your headphones on, or enjoy some downtime in the company of others? Sometimes it's nice just to be around people, even when you're doing your own thing.

Feeling hungry? Bring your dinner along. The space includes:

• Microwave
• Kettle
• Sink
• Drinking Water
• Toilet facilities

And there's always time for a cuppa and a friendly conversation.

We're Here to Support You

At ResLife, we know that student life can be exciting, but it can also bring challenges. Polden Common Room is a place where you can find support, guidance and a listening ear.

If you have concerns about university life, your wellbeing, friendships, accommodation, or anything else that's affecting you, our team will do their best to help. And if you need more specialist support, we can signpost you to the most appropriate University services and teams.

You don't need a reason to visit. Come in for a chat, attend an event, have a cup of tea, or simply enjoy being part of the community.
