Everything you need to know about living in Polden Court
Polden Court houses over 120 undergraduate students and is situated on the west side of our Claverton Down campus, conveniently close to all campus facilities. On the ground floor, each flat accommodates smaller groups of 5 to 8 students, while the upper levels host larger groups of up to 24 students. Residents receive Eat and Drink credit to spend at any University-run eateries, making meal times easier. To ensure you feel safe and at home, Polden Court offers a secure living environment with swipe card access to buildings and flats, supported by a dedicated operations team.
The size of your bed will depend on the type of room you're allocated. This will be on your room offer email.
You will have been offered either:
small ensuite
standard ensuite
large ensuite
Small ensuite room types have a standard single bed (183cm x 91cm), standard ensuite room types have a small double bed (183cm x 122cm) and large ensuite room types have a standard double bed (183cm x 140cm).
All rooms will have a mattress and mattress protector ready for you but you need to decide what you want to do about your bedding. You'll need:
Duvet cover, pillow case and sheet

While you might want to bring all your kitchen gadgets, remember that you'll be sharing the space with your roommates. Talk to them about buying larger items like pots and pans. This saves space for everyone.
Here's a helpful list to get you started:
- Cooking essentials: can opener, frying pan for quick meals, and a saucepan. - Tableware: plates, bowls, and cutlery for meals. - Cooking tools: utensils like spatula, wooden spoon, and a sieve to help you cook. - Food storage: cling film, aluminium foil, and freezer bag to keep your food fresh. - Containers: tupperware to store your snacks and leftovers. - Kitchen essentials: oven mitts and dishcloths to protect yourself from heat and keep the kitchen clean.

Wash and dry with ease! Residents have access to washing machines and tumble dryers located right in Polden Court.
Your laundrette is located by the side of the West Operations Office. You will need to pay for your laundry using the Circuit Go app. Download this on your smart-phones to operate Circuit laundry machines.
We know how important it is to stay entertained, so all our rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, perfect for streaming. Since there are no traditional aerial points, you'll want to use a smart TV or connect a device to enjoy all the online entertainment options.
Heads up! Don't forget toobtain your own TV license, which you can do online. You can easily get one online before you move in.
You will have access to superfast WIFI. You will need your university username and password. Check out ourguide to connecting to Wi-Fion the University webpage.
There is bike storage available at Polden Court located next to the West Operations Office (next to Westwood Derhill) and the other opposite the same office, on the other side of the road.
Doing your part for the environment is simple at Polden Court. Here’s what you need to know:
You have bins that are for your recycling in your kitchens. These can then be taken to the main waste and recycling compound located by the West Operations Office. Paper, cardboard, glass, cans, tins and plastic bottles can all be recycled.
You can use your Eat and Drink credit to purchase food and beverages at on-campus outlets.
This credit is included in your accommodation fees and is added to your account on the Bath Go app in three instalments: in September, January, and April.
The amount of credit you get depends on the accommodation you live in. Residents in Polden Court receive £50 credit every week. With £50 weekly credit you can buy around two meals a day from our food outlets.
Download the Bath Go app from your app store. The first time you open the app, select 'Forgot Password.' This will send a password to your University email address, which you can use to log in.
After signing in, place the QR code from the Loyalty section on the card reader by the till. The till operator will ask for your preferred payment method. If you choose Eat and Drink credit, the cost will be deducted from your account balance.
If your credit is insufficient, you will need to pay any remaining amount out of pocket.
Eat and Drink Discount
Undergraduate students living in Eat and Drink accommodation receive a 10% discount on food and drink purchases at the till.
This discount applies at all outlets except The Market and does not apply to promotional items.
You can collect your mail from a passcode-protected mailbox located in the Eastwood Mail Box Room. This is next to Eastwood Lodge, opposite the Mail Room.
Your mailbox will be allocated by kitchen group. You receive your passcode with your arrival instruction.
If you have a parcel to locate, we'll email your University email account to let you know we have it. You can collect your parcel fromThe Mail Room located in Eastwood Lodge. You will need to bring the email with you when you collect your item. You can either print it out or show it to us on your phone. You also need to bring photographic ID, preferably your University library card.
Addressing your mail or parcels: All mail and parcels for Polden Court will be sent to the Mail Room located in Eastwood Lodge.
It is important that you include your name, accommodation building and room number.
For example if you live in P1.1 and your name is Joe Bloggs you would write the address as:

We have undressed virtual room tours to help you get a feel for your accommodation.
You will be sent a link to a Unibuddy community app. Here you will be able to join your accommodation group, and find out who you will be living with.
Your Unibuddy invite will be sent out to your email address before you start your course in late August.
Local amenities & travel
Polden Court is located on the west side of our Claverton Down campus in Bath, which is a vibrant student community, with cafes, eateries, and green spaces on your doorstep.
The closest post office is located insideFresh on campus, which is a 5 minute walk away.
You can also use InPost and Amazon lockers to drop off and collect parcels from.
Amazon Lockers also offer a convenient way to pick up your Amazon orders.
The University even has its own Amazon Locker called "Boson", located just outside the exit of the Fresh supermarket. For a complete list of Amazon lockers near youvisit this page.
To get to the city centre you will need to get the U1 bus from Arrivals Square which is a 10 minute walk away from Polden Court.
