“A Taste of Home, A Taste of the World!”
Dish up your culture and join us for a delicious evening where everyone brings a dish that represents their culture, giving you the chance to celebrate your roots and explore new flavours from around the world.
It’s more than just food, it’s about connection, pride, and making new friends over plates full of stories and spices. Come hungry, come curious, and get ready to swap more than just dishes!
At ResLife, we’re proud to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our community. Events like the Culture Dish Swap are part of our commitment to helping all students feel at home, express their identity, and connect with others through shared experiences. Whether you're showcasing your heritage or discovering someone else’s, you belong here.
At this event, you’re invited to bring a dish from your culture or country, something that means something to you, whether it’s home-cooked or shop-bought.
When you arrive, you’ll be able to place your dish on a shared table with a small label (we’ll provide these) where you can write the name of the dish and any important info like ingredients or allergens (don’t worry, our staff will guide you through this).
Everyone will have a chance to try a bit of everything, and you're welcome to share the story behind your dish if you’d like to. There’s no pressure to speak in front of a group, just relaxed, friendly conversations as people mingle and chat.
Don’t worry if you don’t bring a dish—you’re still very welcome to join in, try other people’s food, and enjoy the evening.
The space will be well-lit, with soft background music and no loud announcements to make a calm atmosphere. Our staff will be if you have any questions or need anything during the event.
There will be options for people with dietary needs, and you can always ask what’s in a dish before trying it.
ResLife Team member Tabitha will be ready to meet you in the John Wood Social Space for the event start at 5pm. You’ll be able to recognise her wearing a light blue t-shirt or hoodie with the ResLife logo on.
The space is fully accessible with automatic doors and
accessible toilets on the ground floor.
If you prefer to arrive earlier, there is plenty of seating
available in the social space, and Tabitha will be setting up the table to hold
food up to 15 minutes before the start of the event.
