Race Equality Week (2-8 February) intentionally takes place at a time of year when the momentum from Black History Month can begin to fade. It offers an opportunity to reflect and reignite conversations about inclusion and belonging in the places where we live, study, and work, and to recommit to action towards race equality.
As part of this week, Mercy Martins, a PhD student and ResLife Ambassador, has written a thought-provoking series on what race equality means to her, particularly within the context of student accommodation.
How to get involved
Inspired by the Race Equality Matters Big Promise campaign, we are asking you to make a pledge for Race Equality Week. All shared pledges will be displayed on a noticeboard at the entrance of the Claverton Rooms
What you choose to pledge is completely up to you, but keep it to one promise that you can realistically keep. You might consider:
- Making dedicated time to learn about anti-racism
- Reflecting on how race has shaped your connections with others as a student
- Committing to speak out when you witness racism
You can add your pledge to the board directly, submit it via an online form, or join us for a guided pledge writing session on Wednesday 4 February at 12-2pm.
You can find out more about Race Equality Week and related campaigns on the Race Equality Matters page.
