Bite into Bath’s History at Sally Lunn’s
Ready to explore one of the city’s oldest, and most charming treasures?
Join us for a trip to one of Bath’s most iconic hidden gems. Sally Lunn’s, home of the world-famous bun, has centuries of delicious history. Tucked away in one of the city’s oldest houses, this charming tea room is the perfect place to experience a taste of Bath.
You’ll get the chance to explore the story behind the famous brioche-style bun, discover the historic kitchen museum, and try one of the legendary sweet or savoury toppings for yourself.
Whether you’re here for the history, the food, or just the Instagram-worthy vibes, this is a must-do Bath experience and we’re going together. Make sure to leave room for a bun or two and lots of excitement!
We'll be leaving as a group from John Wood at 2.15pm, please make sure to arrive by this time.
For this event, ResLife Team member Tabitha will be ready to meet you in the John Wood Social Space by the reception desk from 2.00pm. You’ll be able to recognise her wearing a light blue t-shirt or hoodie with the ResLife logo. If you prefer to arrive earlier, there is plenty of seating available in the social space.
The group will leave John Wood at 2.15pm, so please be sure you are ready to leave and have joined the group by this time. As a group, Tabitha will walk with you to Sally Lunn's, ready to arrive by 2:30pm.
When we arrive, you’ll have the chance to explore the building, one of the oldest houses in Bath, with a visit to the small kitchen museum downstairs. You’ll then get seated in the tea room, where you can choose from a menu of sweet or savoury dishes, including the famous Sally Lunn bun with a variety of toppings.
The atmosphere is cosy, traditional, and relaxed, perfect for chatting and enjoying something delicious with your fellow students. There’s no pressure to eat anything specific, feel free to order what you’re comfortable with, or just enjoy the experience. The group leaders will be there throughout to help with ordering, answer any questions, or just have a chat.
There’s no entry fee to visit Sally Lunn’s, but if you fancy a bun, a drink, or spot a souvenir you want to take home, make sure you have a bit of money to cover anything you’d like to buy.
The event will last around 1.5 to 2 hours in total, and will end at approximately 4.00pm at Sally Lunn's. Feel free to stay and continue to explore the city after or return to your accommodation for a well deserved rest.
At Sally Lunn's the ground floor is accessible to wheelchairs.
Please note that the toilets are located upstairs on the first floor, and unfortunately, it is not possible to provide an accessible alternative.
The kitchen museum is situated in the cellar, accessed by approximately twelve stone steps.
