Celebrate with good food and great company

Come hungry and ready to celebrate

Ever heard of Burns Night? It’s a Scottish celebration in honour of poet Robert Burns (the guy who wrote Auld Lang Syne, the New Year song!). Traditionally, it’s all about hearty food, poetry, and raising a glass to good company. This is your chance to join our potluck and share a homemade or store-bought dish. Whether you’re a master chef or just bringing snacks, come meet new friends, and enjoy a relaxed evening of fun.

So grab your mates, grab a plate, and let’s make this Burns Night one to remember!

ResLife Ambassdors will meet you in John Wood. You’ll be able to recognise them wearing a light blue t-shirt or hoodie with the ResLife logo on.

The event will be held in the John Wood Social Space which is on the ground floor of John Wood Building. The room has seating available. There are toilets on the same floor.

At this event, you’re invited to bring a dish from your culture or country, something that means something to you, whether it’s home-cooked or shop-bought.

When you arrive, you’ll be able to place your dish on a shared table with a small label (we’ll provide these) where you can write the name of the dish and any important info like ingredients or allergens (don’t worry, our staff will guide you through this).

Everyone will have a chance to try a bit of everything, and you're welcome to share the story behind your dish if you’d like to. There’s no pressure to speak in front of a group, just relaxed, friendly conversations as people mingle and chat.

Don’t worry if you don’t bring a dish—you’re still very welcome to join in, try other people’s food, and enjoy the evening. There will be options for people with dietary needs, and you can always ask what’s in a dish before trying it.
