Paint With Pride

Painting inspired by LGBTQ+ Artists

LGBTQ+ History Month is getting a splash of colour with a creative session that’s all about art, expression, and celebrating queer voices through paint.

We’re hosting a relaxed, queer-artist–inspired painting event where you can unwind, get creative, and learn about influential LGBTQ+ artists who’ve made their mark on the art world. Whether you’re a seasoned painter or someone who hasn’t picked up a brush since school, this is a space to explore, experiment, and have fun with no experience needed.

At the session, you’ll be able to choose from a selection of inspiring queer artists to learn about. We’ll share a little about their lives, their styles, and the impact they’ve had, along with examples of their work to spark your own ideas. From bold and expressive to soft and symbolic, there’ll be lots of different styles to connect with.

Then it’s your turn. Using their work as inspiration, you can create your own piece in whatever way feels right to you. There’s no pressure to make a masterpiece and no strict rules to follow — just paint, creativity, and a welcoming atmosphere where you can try something new.

It’s also a chance to learn in a way that feels easy and social. You might discover an artist you’ve never heard of before, see queer history from a new perspective, or simply enjoy spending time in a creative space with other students.

So come along, grab a brush, and celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month through colour, creativity, and the incredible legacy of queer artists past and present.

Green Park Living Lounge is located on the ground floor of the building, just right of the main entrance and across from the reception. The lounge is accessible with an automatic door and a sloped entrance for wheelchair users. There are a range of seats in the lounge including table seats, sofas, and high seats. There is lots of natural light from the multiple windows along the length of the lounge.

ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.

This will be a relaxed, low-pressure painting session where you can take part at your own pace. You’re welcome to arrive, settle in quietly, and focus on your artwork without any expectation to socialise. Facilitators will be nearby if you need help, but conversation is optional.

RLAs will share a short introduction to a few influential queer artists, with visual examples you can look through for inspiration. You can listen, browse, or start painting whenever you feel ready.

All materials are provided, and no art experience is needed. The space will be calm, with no loud music or performances. You’re free to wear headphones, take breaks, or step out and return as needed.
