Take a moment. Leave a message.
Celebrating LGBTQ+ History
Campus is about to get a little more colourful, thoughtful, and full of heart as we celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month and you’re invited to be part of it in a simple, meaningful way.
Our ResLife Ambassadors will be hosting a pop-up stand where you can stop by, say hello, and take a moment to add your voice to a growing display of pride, reflection, and community. Whether you’re bursting with inspiration or just curious to learn more, this is a space to chat, connect, and celebrate the stories that have shaped LGBTQ+ history.
At the stand, you’ll be able to fill out a label with anything you’d like to share. Maybe it’s a favourite quote from an LGBTQ+ icon who inspires you. Maybe it’s a message of support, a hope for the future, or a few words you think someone else might really need to read. Big or small, funny or heartfelt — it all belongs.
Once written, your message will become part of something special. All the labels will be hung on a tree in Chancellor’s Green, turning it into a living display of voices from across our university community. As the tree fills up, it’ll stand as a reminder to pause, look around, and reflect on the history, resilience, and achievements of LGBTQ+ people — and the role we all play in shaping a more inclusive future.
So between lectures, on your coffee run, or during a study break, come and find us. Bring a friend, have a chat, learn something new, or simply take a quiet moment to write and reflect. LGBTQ+ History Month is about remembering the past, celebrating the present, and building the future together.
Chancellor’s Green is located outside of Chancellor’s Building on the east side of campus, just around the corner from lime tree. A stand will be set up next to one of the trees on the green which cards will be hung from.
You’ll be able to recognise ResLife Ambassadors running the stand in their light blue hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
This is a relaxed, low-pressure drop-in space. You can stay for a few seconds or a few minutes, and there’s no expectation to talk or share anything personal. Ambassadors may say hello, but a nod, smile, or “just looking” is completely fine.
The stand will be a small, simple setup with labels and pens. There won’t be loud music or performances, though there may be normal campus background noise. You’re free to take a label, step aside to think, and come back when you’re ready. If you’d rather say your message out loud, an ambassador can write it for you.
Reading others’ messages on the tree in Chancellor’s Green can also be a quiet, independent way to take part. You can visit in your own time and spend as long, or as little, as feels comfortable.
