Show Your Colours

Create and Celebrate with us!

Get creative and show your colours at our Tie-Dye for Trans Visibility event. In the lead-up to Trans Day of Visibility on 31 March, we’re inviting you to join us for a relaxed crafting session where you can design and dye your own pair of socks.

We’ll have unisex socks available for everyone to tie-dye, along with a range of bright colours to experiment with. If you’d prefer to customise something else, you’re also welcome to bring along your own clothing items like a t-shirt, tote bag, or other fabric piece to dye during the session.

Whether you want to create something inspired by the colours of a specific LGBTQ+ flag, celebrate trans pride, or simply choose colours that feel right to you, this event is all about creativity, expression, and community. There’s no right or wrong way to design your piece, just have fun with the process and make something that represents you.

It’s also a great chance to meet other students, enjoy a creative break, and take part in celebrating trans visibility on campus. By the end of the session, you’ll have a colourful, handmade item to wear with pride for Trans Day of Visibility and beyond.

Polden Commons is located on the ground floor of Polden B Block, next to the Polden Cafe. The room is fully accessible with steps free access and a range of both booth and table seats available. There are accessible toilets located on the same floor.

ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.

This event is designed to be a relaxed, creative space where students can make their own tie-dye designs while celebrating Trans Day of Visibility.

During the session you’ll be able to dye a pair of socks using a range of colours and patterns, with guidance available if you’d like help getting started. Unisex socks will be provided, but you’re also welcome to bring your own clothing items, such as a t-shirt or tote bag, if you’d prefer to dye something else.

The atmosphere will be informal and welcoming, with light background conversation and no loud music or flashing lights. Please note that we may at times ask students to step outside when removing items from the dye to ensure spaces are kept clean. ResLife Ambassadors will be there to instruct when and how to do this.

You’re free to work at your own pace, chat with others, or focus quietly on your design.

All dyes and materials will be provided, and by the end of the session you’ll have a colourful, handmade piece to wear for Trans Day of Visibility or whenever you want to show your colours.
