As part of our Black History Month celebrations, the ResLife Team is heading to Topping & Company Booksellers in Bath for an inspiring author talk with Lanre Bakare, and you’re invited.

Lanre Bakare – writer, journalist, and cultural commentator – will be sharing insights from his latest book ‘We Were There’, exploring the themes and ideas shaping conversations around Black culture, identity, and creativity today. It’s a brilliant opportunity to hear directly from the author, ask questions, and connect with fellow students who share an interest in culture, literature, and meaningful discussion.

This event is a perfect chance to experience the ResLife Book Club in action — meet other book-loving students, share thoughts, discover new reads, and enjoy an evening out together. Whether you’re an avid reader or just love great conversations, this event promises to be a great one.

Tickets are just £2. Even better, if you fall in love with the book (and we’re sure you will), you can redeem £5 off the purchase price on the night.

So grab a friend (or come solo, we’re a friendly bunch), book your ticket, and join us for an evening that’s all about books, culture, and connection.

ResLife Ambassadors will meet you outside the entrance to Bath Abbey before walking around the corner to Topping and Company where the event is being held. You can see the location here.

You’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue hoodies with the ResLife logo on.

This event is a relaxed one held by the bookshop Toppings and Company in Bath city centre.

You will be invited to join ResLife Ambassadors and other students in attending this event, where you will be able to listen to author Lanre Bakare discuss his new book ‘We Were There’.

There will be seating available during the event, and the opportunity to ask questions if you would like to. This is not a requirement though, so if you prefer to just sit and listen you will be more than welcome to.

At the end of the event, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss what you thought with other members of your group, but again this is entirely up to you if you would like to join in.
