Get Creative and Celebrate Diwali
Create. Celebrate. Illuminate.
Add a splash of colour to your week and get into the festive spirit with our Diya Painting event! As Diwali approaches, we’re inviting all students to come together for a fun, relaxed evening of creativity, conversation, and celebration.
Whether you’ll be celebrating Diwali yourself or simply want to learn more about this vibrant festival, everyone is welcome. While meeting new people and our ResLife Ambassadors, you’ll get the chance to decorate your own clay Diya; a traditional oil lamp that symbolizes light, hope, and positivity.
It’s the perfect way to unwind, make new friends, and discover the beauty behind one of the world’s most joyful celebrations. All materials will be provided, and you’ll get to take home your beautifully painted Diya as a keepsake.
Come join us, get creative, and help light up Green Park with colour, laughter, and festive cheer!
Green Park Living Lounge is located on the ground floor of the building, just right of the main entrance and across from the reception.
The lounge is accessible with an automatic door and a sloped entrance for wheelchair users. There are a range of seats in the lounge including table seats, sofas, and high seats. There is lots of natural light from the multiple windows along the length of the lounge.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
At this event, you’re invited to paint your own clay Diya – a small traditional oil lamp, in the lead up to the Hindu celebration Diwali.
ResLife Ambassadors will greet you and make sure you feel welcome and understand the set-up of the event. There will be tables covered with cloths where you can sit and paint your Diya, and a range of paint and paintbrushes will be available to you.
The whole event is unstructured and flexible, so you can come and go as needed or stay for the whole time, it’s up to you.
There will be some quiet background music playing, but volume can be altered if you speak with an RLA. There’s no expectation to talk or socialise if you’re not feeling up to it. You’re welcome to sit quietly, take a break at any time, or leave whenever you need to. Participation is totally up to you — you can chat with others or simply stop by and head off. It’s designed to be very low-pressure.
If you need a quieter spot, just ask the team and they can help you find a nearby calm area to take a breather.
