Celebrating Singles Awareness Day
Self-love counts too
Not feeling the Valentine’s Day hype? Perfect. This weekend, we’re flipping the script and celebrating Singles Awareness Day with an artsy, feel-good craft event made just for you.
Join our ResLife Ambassadors for a relaxed painting session where the theme is simple: paint someone or something you love. That could be your best friend, your dog, your favourite comfort food, your childhood home, your favourite fictional character, or even yourself. Want to try a self-portrait? Go for it. Feeling brave? Paint each other and see what happens!
There’s no pressure to be a great artist, this event is all about expression, laughter, and appreciating the many different kinds of love that exist beyond just romance.
We’ll have all the supplies ready, from canvases and paints to brushes and aprons, so you can just show up and get creative. Expect good vibes, chill music, and a space where you can hang out, unwind, and do something a little different with your weekend. Whether you come with friends or roll in solo, you’ll leave with your own masterpiece and maybe a few new connections too.
Because Valentine’s weekend isn’t just about couples — it’s about celebrating love in all its forms, including the one you have for yourself.
Polden Commons is located on the ground floor of Polden B Block, next to the Polden Cafe. The room is fully accessible with steps free access and a range of both booth and table seats available. There are accessible toilets located on the same floor.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
There’s no formal instruction you have to keep up with at this event and no expectation to socialize in any particular way. You’re welcome to paint quietly on your own, chat with others, or just take your time getting started. Our RLAs will be around to offer clear, simple guidance if you want it, but they’ll also give you plenty of room to work independently.
The environment will be relaxed, and you can take breaks whenever you need, step away from the activity, or switch what you’re working on at any time. Headphones, comfort items, and personal creative routines are absolutely welcome. All materials are provided and easy to use, and there’s no “right way” to create your piece.
Whether you dive fully into painting or just do a little at a time, you’ll be able to engage in a way that feels comfortable for you while still being part of a warm, creative community.
