Celebrating Earth Day
Get messy, get creative, go a little greener.
Join us for our Papier Mâché Plant Pot Making event; a relaxed, hands-on session where you can transform simple, recycled materials into something both practical and personal. It’s a chance to step away from screens and textbooks for a while and try something tactile, creative, and surprisingly satisfying.
During the session, you’ll design and shape your own plant pot using paper mâché techniques, with plenty of opportunity to customise it once it’s formed. Whether you prefer a clean, minimal look or something more colourful and expressive, you’ll be able to make a piece that reflects your style. Once finished, your pot is yours to take home, ready for a plant, a windowsill, or even just as a reminder to take things a little slower.
The event is designed to be easy-going and accessible, with guidance available throughout but no pressure to follow a set outcome. It’s just as much about the process as the final result, giving you space to unwind, chat with others, and do something a bit different in the middle of a busy term.
Celebrating Earth Day doesn’t have to mean big gestures. Sometimes, it’s about small, thoughtful actions — like reusing materials, making something by hand, and taking a moment to appreciate the world beyond your to-do list.
Polden Commons is located on the ground floor of Polden B Block, next to the Polden Cafe. The room is fully accessible with steps free access and a range of both booth and table seats available. There are accessible toilets located on the same floor.
ResLife Ambassadors will be there to welcome you – you’ll be able to recognise them in their light blue RLA hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.
This is a calm, informal session where you can take part at your own pace. You’re free to arrive and leave when you need, and there’s no pressure to complete your plant pot within the session time.
Paper mâché can be a slightly messy, hands-on activity, with different textures and some mild smells from materials like glue. Gloves and wipes will be available if you prefer to avoid direct contact. The space will have a moderate level of background noise, similar to a small group workshop.
Clear guidance will be provided, but you can follow along as much or as little as you like. The focus is on offering a relaxed, creative break in a supportive environment.
