Your guide on the nearby parks and gardens

As a student at the University of Bath, taking a break from your studies and immersing yourself in nature is a perfect way to unwind and recharge. Lucky for us, Bath has plenty of green spaces close to campus that you can make the most of. Here are a few recommendations perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of student life and embracing the beauty of nature.

The Royal Crescent & Royal Victoria Park

Less than an hour's walk away from campus but still within easy reach, the Royal Crescent and Royal Victoria Park are both true gems of the city. You will have likely heard of the crescent as it's a must-see if you're a tourist, but it's also the perfect place for a picnic on the huge flat lawn out front. The park right by the crescent spans 57 acres and features rolling lawns, picturesque gardens, and a delightful botanical collection. Take a leisurely walk, visit the botanical gardens, or explore the enchanting Great Dell woodland area.

Prior Park Landscape Garden

Ready for some real magic? Then we'd recommend Prior Park Landscape Garden which is about 45 minutes walk from campus. This picturesque spot, owned by the National Trust, will blow your mind with its epic views of Bath's skyline. It's a dreamy landscape filled with lakes, woodlands, and meadows that'll make you feel like you've stepped into a fairytale. Wander along the winding paths, snap some Insta-worthy pics on the iconic Palladian bridge, and let the serene vibes of this 18th-century garden wash over you.

Bathwick Fields

If you're seeking open spaces for outdoor activities, Bathwick Fields is the place to go and it's only 25 minutes away. This spot provides plenty of views and is great for a leisurely walk (if the sun is out of course). It connects to other great green spaces too! So soak in the sweeping views of the city while also feeling out of the city.

The Skyline Walk

For those who love hiking and panoramic views, the Bath Skyline Walk is a must-do. This six-mile circular trail takes you through stunning countryside, woodlands, and meadows, offering breathtaking vistas of Bath's skyline along the way. Lace up your hiking boots and immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Alexandra Park

Nestled in the heart of Bath, Alexandra Park is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. As you ascend to the park's summit, you'll be rewarded with a stunning vista that showcases the historic cityscape, including iconic landmarks such as Bath Abbey and the Royal Crescent. The park itself boasts beautiful gardens, tranquil pathways, and peaceful green spaces, providing a perfect setting for walks and picnics.

This was just a handful of the fantastic green spaces near the university, you'll be able to find plenty more if you keep exploring further afield. So when you get the chance, take a break from your studies, grab your friends, and venture into Bath's great outdoors.
