Are you drawn to nature?

Where fresh air meets fresh pages.

We’re inviting you to spend some relaxed time in the campus community garden, where nature is waking up and the first signs of spring are starting to show. A member of the university’s landscape team will kick things off with a friendly tour, sharing what’s growing, what’s changing through the seasons, and some of the exciting plans for the garden’s future. It’s a chance to see your campus from a different perspective and learn about the work that goes into keeping these green spaces thriving.

After exploring, it’s time to get creative. We’ll provide art materials so you can sketch your favourite corner of the garden, whether that’s a cluster of early flowers, an interesting tree, a winding path, or just the way the light hits the leaves. No art experience needed. This isn’t about perfect drawings; it’s about taking a moment to notice your surroundings, try something hands-on, and enjoy being outdoors.

You can chat with others while you draw, sit quietly and sketch on your own, or just wander and take it all in. It’s a gentle way to pause, get some fresh air, and maybe discover a new favourite study-escape spot on campus.

Step away from the rush, soak up a bit of green, and search for the first signs of spring with us.

ResLife Ambassadors will meet you at the Community Garden on the west side of campus. If you've never been before, you can see it's location on the map here.

You'll be able to recognise them wearing their light blue hoodies and t-shirts with the ResLife logo on.

We’ll meet at the entrance to the campus community garden, where a member of the landscape team will welcome everyone and lead a short, gentle tour. They’ll point out different areas of the garden, talk about what’s currently growing, and share some of the plans for the space in the future. There will be chances to pause, look around, and ask questions, but there’s no pressure to interact if you’d rather just listen.

After the tour, you’ll be invited to choose a spot in the garden to sit and sketch. Art materials will be provided, and you can draw whatever catches your attention. You don’t need any art experience, and there’s no expectation to share your work unless you want to.

The session is designed to be calm and flexible. Some people may chat quietly while they draw, while others may prefer to work on their own. You’re free to move to a different spot, take a break, or simply sit and enjoy the garden without sketching at all.

Because we’ll be outdoors, there may be natural sounds like birds, wind, or distant campus activity. Paths may be slightly uneven in places, and the weather may be cool, so comfortable shoes and layers are a good idea. If you need to leave early or step away for a bit, that’s absolutely fine, and you can re-join whenever you’re ready.

This event is about slowing down, noticing nature, and taking a gentle break from busy student life, in whatever way feels most comfortable for you.
