Using the toaster in your kitchen

A toaster is a quick and easy way to prepare breakfast, snacks and light meals. It is designed for toasting bread, bagels, and other suitable bakery products.

Most toasters will have a lever to control the bread's position in the slots, a dial to set the level of browning, and an eject button if you need to pop the bread up.

Cleaning the toaster

Regular cleaning helps prevent crumbs building up and reduces the risk of burning or unpleasant smells. 

To clean the toaster, first let it cool completely and unplug from the wall. Empty the crumb tray and wash it with warm, soapy water. Let this dry before returning. Wipe the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth, and remove any crumbs left in the slots by gently turning the toaster upside down over a bin. 

 

Top tips

• Don't leave the toaster unattended while in use. 
• Never use metal cutlery to remove things from the toaster.
• Clean the crumb tray regularly, and double check it is in place before using the toaster.
