A hob allows you to cook food in pans on the stovetop.
Most hobs in accommodation are electric, however, there are a small number of induction hobs. We recommend finding the relevant instruction manual from our online manuals library for detailed guidance on your hob.
You will find information about which dial controls which ring near the hob. You can use the dials to control the heat level; electric hobs can take more time to reach temperature, and remain hot for longer than other hob types.
Cleaning the hob
A clean hob is safe and easier to use; it is likely to be one of the appliance that gets dirty quickest in your kitchen. Every time you use the hob, you should check for spills and clean promptly.
To clean the hob, first allow it to cool completely. Wipe away any spills with a damp cloth or paper towel. For more stubborn stains, you will need a more abrasive cleaning product, such as a cream cleaner, or a rough sponge or brush. Make sure to remove burnt-on food carefully to avoid scratching the surface.
Top tips
- Never leave cooking unattended, especially when frying.
- Keep pan handles turned inwards where possible, to prevent accidents.
- Make sure the hob is switched off when you finish cooking.
