If you're applying for accommodation at the University of Bath and find yourself on the waiting list, there's no need to worry. While you can feel the uncertainty throughout the process, there are clear steps you can take and plenty of support available to help you navigate it. Here’s what to expect and some helpful advice to make the process smoother.
Registering for accommodation
Once you’ve received a firm offer from us, you can register to use the accommodation application portal. Keep in mind that it may take up to 48 hours to access the registration system, so don’t worry if you can’t log in straight away.
Before you begin the registration process, make sure you know your University username and password. If you've forgotten your password or don’t have your username, you can complete this form to retrieve this information. Once you're ready, you'll be able to start your application.
Making your accommodation choices
As part of your application, you’ll need to select and rank seven different types of accommodation. It’s important to rank them in order of preference, from the highest to the lowest. We recommend choosing a variety of room types to increase your chances of securing a place.
If you have a disability or a diagnosed medical condition that should be considered when allocating your room, make sure to complete the additional requirements form and provide supporting information. This will help the accommodation team consider your needs when finding a suitable room.
What happens next?
While being on the waiting list means that a room in our accommodation isn’t guaranteed, the University makes every effort to place you in one of its accommodations. This may include an offer of temporary shared accommodation, allowing you to attend uni while a more permanent room is found for you.
If you are allocated accommodation, you’ll receive an email inviting you to log in to the Accommodation Portal to view and accept your allocation. This email will include a deadline, usually within four days of your offer date, by which you need to accept or decline your offer. Make sure to keep an eye on your emails, as offers will be sent out daily from Thursday 29 August.
Support available
Throughout this process, you’re not alone! We offer various support options, including:
- ResLife Ambassadors (RLAs): These are students who have experience living in uni accommodation and can offer advice and support. If you want to talk to an RLA, you can email them at reslifesupport@bath.ac.uk.
- Bookable appointments: If you have specific concerns or questions, you can book an appointment to discuss your situation, online or face to face.
- FAQ guides: We have helpful guides available that address common questions and concerns about accommodation.
What to do while you wait for your offer
- Hold off on buying essentials: Don’t rush out to buy loads of stuff for your new room just yet. Bed sizes may vary, and you might want to take advantage of second-hand sale events through the Leave No Trace initiative or buy household items with new flatmates.
- Research the local area: Get to know the local area around your accommodation. Finding potential spots for you to hang out or your closest supermarket will make you feel more settled when you arrive.
- Explore the SU and societies: The Students’ Union (SU) offers a wide range of societies and activities. Now is a great time to check out what’s available and think about what you’d like to get involved in.
- Learn some new meals: Knowing how to cook a few simple, nutritious meals will make your transition to uni life much smoother. Practice some new recipes before you move, cooking is a life skill you won't regret learning!
- Brush up on your cleaning and laundry skills: If you haven’t done much cleaning or laundry before, now is a good time to learn. These are essential skills that will help you live independently.
- Ask questions: If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to an RLA via email at reslifesupport@bath.ac.uk.
