Register with a gp

Posted 23 hours ago

An essential when starting university

The Medical Centre is located on the south side of campus, so you're never far away if you need to see a GP.

We recommend registering soon after you arrive. Even if you don't get ill often, it's always better to have a safety net, and you'll also be seen sooner.

Register Online

To register, you will need:

✅ To complete the online registration form

✅ Your Bath address or full University of Bath campus address

You can also register by filling out a GP surgery paper form and taking it to the surgery.

What Can I Book For?

To ensure your safety, please follow the appointment booking guidance.

  • Treatment for minor injuries and illnesses
  • Vaccinations
  • Sexual health services
  • Counselling

Help with costs of prescriptions, dental care and eye tests

If you are under 19 and in full-time education, you don't have to pay for prescriptions, dental treatment or eye tests from the NHS.

If you are over 19, you may be eligible to apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme to receive full or partial help with costs. Keep in mind that your student loans are considered part of your income when you apply.

Emergencies

When someone is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk, ALWAYS ring 999 in an emergency.

If you need help but aren't sure where to go, you can get help from 111.nhs.uk or call 111. It's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What if I'm an International Student?

You should definitely register at the Medical Centre during your stay in the UK.

What to check before you arrive

If you have a preexisting health condition, talk to your doctor at home. Discuss whether you will be covered by the UK healthcare system (NHS). You may need to take out private health insurance for the duration of your studies here.

If you are having any medical treatment, you should bring adoctor's report in English to the UK. The report should give details of your illness or condition. It should also detail any medicines you are taking and any future treatment you need.

You will need to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge when you apply for your Student Visa. This will entitle you to NHS medical treatment while you're in the UK.

Opening hours during term time: Monday to Friday, 8 am - 6:30 pm

If you have a minor medical issue, you can get advice from a pharmacist without an appointment.

Make sure you register with a GP before or soon after you arrive so you have easy access to support and healthcare as soon as you need it - please don't wait until you are ill!
