How to use the kettle

Posted 1 day ago

Using the kettle in your kitchen

An electric kettle is a countertop appliance designed for boiling water quickly.

To use the kettle, simply open the lid and fill with the amount you need. Close the lid and return to its base, and switch it on. On most kettles, the switch will flick back up once the water is boiled.

Cleaning the kettle

Regular cleaning helps keep your kettle working efficiently and will reduce limescale build-up.

To clean the kettle, make sure it is cool, and then remove any unused water. Wipe the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth, and add diluted white vinegar. Boil the solution, and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing out. Make sure to warn your flatmates so they don't get a nasty surprise!

Top tips

  • Only boil the water you need. This avoids waste, and the kettle will boil faster.
  • Avoid overfilling the kettle, as it can overflow.
  • Remove excess water on a regular basis to help keep it clean and hygienic.
  • Be careful of steam when opening the lid.
